Welcome to Sisters Walk for Beautiful
During September 2010, sisters Katie and Jo Perkins walked from Auckland to Cape Reinga in an effort to raise awareness of, and funds for, the 1.5-2 million African women suffering from ‘Obstetric Fistula’.
So far they have raised $33,369.77.
This devastating condition is the result of internal damage caused by a prolonged obstructed labour in childbirth (sometimes 5 days or more during which the baby inevitably dies). These women are then faced with a life of permanent incontinence; continually leaking urine and sometimes bowel contents.
The good news is that the majority of these women can be healed with an, on average, 30 minute surgery and 2 weeks recovery. Katie and Jo’s walk represents the long journeys tens of thousands of these suffering women have made in an effort to seek help.
If you want to directly change a woman’s life forever, please donate to ‘Sisters Walk for Beautiful’ where all donations will be sent to the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia.
Thank you for your support!
