High profile New Zealander's supporting Sisters Walk for Beautiful.

    Best wishes to Katie and Jo on their incredible endeavour. We’re very spoilt in New Zealand with our first-class health system and maternity care. Sadly many countries are not as fortunate and obstetric fistula still plagues close to two million women worldwide. I have the greatest admiration for Katie and Jo being prepared to step out to help those so less fortunate.

    I wish Katie and Jo all the best on their walk. As we are very fortunate in New Zealand it is easy to forget how hard it is for others in this world. This walk is a great opportunity to support women who struggle with one of life’s greatest honours, giving birth to another human being. This struggle becomes the difference in quality of life for whole families and communities in Africa. Good luck with the walk Katie and Jo, and come on NZ let’s get behind them!

When I look back I can honestly say that becoming a mother has certainly eclipsed any athletic success and children have brought the most joy and happiness to our family. I am passionate about health and wellbeing and admire what your conviction is. It would be extra good if some of the funds could be committed to preventing fistula through education. I'll be with you in spirit and let's know if you need some company on the walk and where!

How can you help?

On average, it takes a 30 minute surgery, 2 weeks recovery, and just NZ$400 (US$300) to treat one woman.
